National Portrait Gallery’s ‘500 Portraits’ book

Jason Butler’s painting ‘Eddie 1’ has been chosen as one of 500 works to be displayed in the National Portrait Gallery’s ‘500 Portraits’, a prestigious new hardback book celebrating the British Portrait Award. Since 1990, over 2000 works have been shown in the award and the publication is intended to display the broad range of styles and subject matter contained within the exhibitions history. Sandy Nairne, Director of the National Portrait Gallery has written the foreword.

The painting selected was painted from life in 2001 and displayed at the NPG in 2002. The sitter is Eddie Riou, a family friend of Jason.

The book is available now from the National Portrait Gallery and coincides with the BP Portrait Award exhibition currently on display in the gallery until 18th September 2011.
